Dwyer Boys advance past Findlay Prep in ESPN RISE Tournament
April 20, 2011
The William T. Dwyer boys basketball team is one shot closer to winning the ESPN Rise High School Invitational Tournament.
The Panthers beat tournament’s two-time defending champs, Findlay Prep Pilots from Nevada, 70–61 in a nationally televised game yesterday in Maryland.
Jacoby Brissett scored 30 points, grabbed five rebounds and snatched four steals. Brissett has committed to play football at the University of Florida.
“I’m a football player,” Brissett told ESPN .
“We’re tough by nature. During the game, one of their guys punched me. He threw his best punch. I just laughed and said, ‘That didn’t hurt too much.’ I don’t think it’s possible to intimidate us.”
The Florida class 5A State basketball champions are back on the court today.
Dwyer will face Oak Hill Academy from Virginia in the semifinals tonight at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN-2.
